A bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Anil Menon took note that despite its order passed last year, illegal hoardings and banners continue to be erected. Only at the previous hearing the bench had noted the``gross default'' on part of municipal councils and added that State government is "not helpless" to take action against them.
Noting that not much progress has been made, the bench said sufficient time was given to civic bodies. It added that it now proposes to issue a "final direction for contempt of court"and take the issue to its " logical end. "
When pointed out that illegal.hoarding is erected above Bhayendar Police Station, the bench directed that its in-charge police officer and the concerned ward officer of Mira Bhayendar Municipal Corporation remain present in court at the next hearing. Similarly in respect of illegal hoardings displayed in Pune in prime locations, the court has directed ward officers of the concerned wards to remain present.
