Abductor who killed Kalyan boy had debt of Rs 15 lakh

KALYAN: The Thane police investigating the kidnapping and murder of Rohan Gucchait (12), have learnt that the main accused, Sayyed Shaikh, had demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom to repay a loan of Rs 15 lakh. One of Shaikh's lenders is a co-accused, Ganesh Patil.

Police said Shaikh, who worked as an electrician, was close to the boy's father, Uttam, and often worked at his shop. Cops added that before kidnapping Rohan, Shaikh made several extortion calls to Uttam in the last four months demanding money, but Uttam treated thecalls lightly. Shaikh then abducted Rohan on April 17 with the help of Patil and two others. But the accused became nervous on seeing the police at the boy's home the next day after which he strangled the minor, chopped up his body and dumped its parts in a nullah.
