The complainant, Sandeep Wankhede, 35, works as a driver and lives in the same neighbourhood. According to his complaint, the accused, Pandurang Igwe, 50, and his son, Kunal, took objection to songs being played on the loudspeaker at 11pm. The Igwes, also residents of the same area, were allegedly inebriated.
"Residents pleaded with the Igwes that a song on Dr Ambedkar was going on and they would shut down the music after two more songs were played. However, the Igwes allegedly passed derogatory remarks against Dr Ambedkar as well as the community," Wankhede said in his complaint.
After the Igwes left, Wankhede and his neighbours informed the police control room about the incident. A police van reached the neighbourhood and brought the Igwes to the Goregaon police station.
"The father-son duo was arrested under provisions of IPC and relevant sections of the Atrocities Act. They were released on bail on Tuesday," said a police official. The Igwes are related to a couple who are attached to a political party and have contested civic elections in the past.
