The accused had assaulted two woman constables on Saturday evening at Ganeshmurti slum after which the police had booked them in the case.
The police said that the accused had a dispute with local residents over the SRA project and threatened them to favour a developer.
A girl rushed to the woman constables who were on bandobast duty nearby asking for the help. The constables went to inquire the issue when the accused assaulted them.
The police said that the arrested accused is a close freind of the woman and he came to meet her when the incident took place.
The police said that they woman constables were deployed in routine banbobast duty at the spot.
Assistant commissioner of police Shivajirao Kolekar stated that the police took serious action in the case as the constable were assaulted while perform their duty.
