The prosecution so far has examined over 100 witnesses including police offices and the victims family members.
On Nov 11, 2006, alleged Chhota Rajan aide Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiya was killed in an encounter at Versova. As many as 22 people, including 14 policemen are facing trial in the case.
At the time of his death, Gupta had 19 cases registered against him. Of which 12 were of murders.
The Bombay high court in February 2008 ordered magisterial inquiry into the encounter; in August 2009 the magistrate submitted the report which said he had been in fact murdered in cold blood.
The high court later formed a special investigation team, which arrested cop Pradeep Sharma and other police officers.
