MUMBAI: The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act ( MCOCA) court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case to January 16. The court adjourned the hearing after arrested accused and suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Zabihuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal could not be brought to court on Wednesday.
In November last year, the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) filed a supplementary charge sheet against Jundal . The chargesheet was 3650 pages long and named him as the main conspirator along with co accused Fayaz Kagzi.
According to the ATS, one of its teams chased a Tata Sumo and an Indica on Chandawd-Manmad highway near Aurangabad on May 8, 2006 and arrested three suspects. The team seized 30kg RDX, 10 AK-47 assault rifles and 3,200 bullets from them. Later, the police seized 13kg RDX, six AK-47s, 50 hand grenades and two swords from other suspects. Those arrested reportedly told the police that the consignment was brought by Jundal, who had fled alongwith Kazgi to Pakistan. Kagzi, a senior of Jundal at Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Beed, had allegedly introduced him to the terror outfits.
In August the ATS secured Jundal's custody in the case. He was first arrested by the Delhi police on June 25 after he was deported from Saudi Arabia. On July 20, the Mumbai crime branch took Jundal into custody in the 26/11 terror attack case. Jundal is suspected to be one of the handlers of the 10 Pakistani terrorists involved in the 26/11 carnage and had had allegedly taught them Hindi. Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab identified Jundal as his handler. On October 16, the crime branch had filed a supplementary chargsheet against Jundal in that case.
