Tension in parts of city over insult to the statue of Shivaji Maharaj

MUMBAI: A major communal riot like situation was averted late night at Parksite area between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli after some miscreants tried to insult the statue of Shivaji Maharaj on the eve of Shivaji Jyanti on Sunday.

Sources said that some miscreants spat near the statue which irked some shiv saniks who allegedly pelted stones on the colony of a particular community.

Heavy police bandobast including platoons of SRPF have been deployed all over the area. Like Lalbaugh incident in January this year, the Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria himself was present at the scene of crime and was monitoring the situation till early Monday morning. Immediately after this Maria called the Mohalla committee meeting in which members of both the communities exchange greetings and prayed for peace.
