Seven bookies arrested from outskirts of Mumbai

MUMBAI: Seven bookies from outskirts of Mumbai who were accepting bets a hotel at Lamington road in South Mumbai on Sunday's Australia's vs Sri Lanka's match were arrested by the Social service branch of Mumbai police.

Acting on the specific tip off the ss branch led by inspector Shirish Sawant raided two rooms at Sahara hotel at Lamington road and arrested seven bookies.

Police team raided two rooms simultaneously and arrested Manish Shah , Mohammed Salim and Abdul Shaikh and from another room police arrested Anilkumar Ramrakheni alias Lottery, Suresh Khurkhuriyua, Srikant Shah and Surendra Sahu.

Police have recovered 13 cell phones, 1 laptop, telephone dairies and cash of Rs 1.50 lakhs from both the rooms. During probe it transpired that they had given fake names to get the two rooms.

All have been booked under the cheating, forgery, gambling act and Indian telegraphic act have been remanded to police custody.

While Manish is from Akola district and often comes to Mumbai for his contracts, Amit is from Amravati.
