MUMBAI: A fire broke out in a 1,000 sq ft scrap godown of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Tardeo on Saturday afternoon. No casualties were reported.

Tardeo police said the godown housed some old furniture and documents.

As it was Saturday, there was no rush at the RTO, compared to other working days, so no one was injured in the fire, said an RTO official.

Subash Pedamkar, deputy regional transport officer, ruled any foul play in the incident, which took place around 2.15pm. He said, "The room was being used to store unimportant documents, scrap and furniture. There has been no damage to any important documents or records."

"Fire engines from Nana Chowk and Byculla rushed to the spot and doused the fire in half an hour," said sub-inspector Nitin Ware.

An eyewitness Dhananjay Khade said, "We saw fumes coming out of the godown and informed the fire brigade. It was doused in half an hour."
