Vashi Dy RTO Sanjay Dhaygude said, "We will be issuing another appeal to the permit holders. The earlier order had a 45-day compliance period that ended in early December. The local office will start a fresh drive next week."
There has been limited success, with the Vashi office booking two cases. Panvel has booked around 10-12 cases for violations, said Panvel RTO, Arun Yeola.
The transport authority has imposed a fine of Rs 500 for such violations. But it is becoming difficult to enforce the order.
The order is meant to act as a deterrent against misbehaviour or any complaints of commuters, say officials. But it does not have any provision of penalty under the MV Act, said ACP (Traffic), Dinkar Thakur.
He added, "We have also issued an appeal for affixing smart card behind the driver's seat, which will be issued from January." He added that if the permit holders had abided by the order, then the smart cards would not have been required.
While the traffic department has been successful in getting the nod from 1,120 auto operators, it still has a long way to go with around 9,500 autos registered with the Vashi Dy (RTO) and another 5,500-odd vehicles with Panvel RTO.
