Her husband, Sakaram, discovered the body when he returned home from work. The police said Chaya was possibly murdered between 6pm and 7.30pm. The police said they suspect Satpute was killed over a property or financial dispute.
The Satputes, who are Navi Mumbai residents, run a credit society.
The house in Ghatkopar, which is located in a chawl in Bhatwadi area, had been purchased on a loan taken from the credit society. As the borrower had defaulted on repayment, they had attached the house. Ever since, the Satputes used to visit the house periodically to clean it.
A case of murder was registered at the Ghatkopar police station.
