Share autos to flash fares, route details

MUMBAI: Soon, share autorickshaws will display a board detailing the route, the serial number (of the route) and the fare per commuter.

Auto union leader Thampy Kurien said there is a need to streamline share auto services outside railway stations. "We are beginning with Jogeshwari and Malad stations. In less than a fortnight, you will see several autos in these areas bearing a mini-board showing the exact fare and the route map. This will ensure transparency and will also help passengers identify the autos to their destination," he said.

The union is also in the process of bringing together all the share routes under one stand outside railway stations. "For example, if there are four share auto routes at a station, their stands are situated at four different locations. A commuter has to run from one stand to another to check which one operates autos to his destination. We plan to identify a location where all the four routes will operate at one stand. With each vehicle sporting a small board mentioning the route number and route, it will be easy for a commuter to identify his route," he said.

Kurien said he has also informed RTO officials about the commuters' grouse that on a few share routes, drivers have been demanding excess fares. "This is why we want to bring all the share routes outside a station under one stand and ensure that every route is marked properly and the rates are specified according to the RTO-approved list," he said.

To lodge complaints, commuters can approach the local traffic constable or call on RTO tollfree number, 1800-22-0110. They can email complaints on MH01@mahatranscom.in (island city), MH02@mahatranscom.in (western suburbs) and on MH03@mahatranscom.in (eastern suburbs).
