On June 28, Hameed Ansari, who lived alone on the second floor of Yakub Mansion in Nagpada's 2nd Ghelabai Street was found tied and strangulated and his house robbed including his five cell phones. His family, comprising four sons, three daughters and several grandchildren who stayed nearby. The murder took place in wee hours but it was discovered in the morning when his grandson Wasif went to deliver breakfast.
Police initially believed that it could be handiwork of some insider but during the course of probe it was discovered some professional people were involved. "Based on some specific tip off we first picked up Jameel, a painter from near Kurla terminals and during interrogations he spill beans on Hameed and Imran. We are now looking for Imran and a tea vendor who passed the tip off the old man to them," said Prashant Raje, senior inspector. Police have recovered one of deceased's cell phone from the accused. The accused have been handed over to the Nagpada police for further probe.
