MUMBAI: Various political parties in the Vasai-Virar region have taken out a morcha to the municipal headquarters on Monday to protest against the water shortage after the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared. Political parties like the BJP and the Shiv Sena have alleged that the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) ruled Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) cut water supply to housing societies after the party faced defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
BVA had fielded sitting MP Baliram Jadhav who lost to BJP's Advocate Chintaman Wanga from the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency. A day after results were declared on May 16, residents of the region began facing water scarcity.

The BVA is headed by former MLA and Congress loyalist Hitendra Thakur.
Civic officials maintained that the water scarcity was due to leakage in the pipelines supplying water to the region.
The morcha will travel upto the VVMC headquarters in Virar. No untoward incident has been reported so far. Heavy police bandobast has been deployed.
