LS polls: Underworld gangs trying to raise its head?

MUMBAI: Is underworld gang is trying its hand in the coming elections? The city crime branch have arrested a gang of four persons along with three country made sophisticated weapons in Malad in western suburbs on Sunday.

Acting on the specific tip off the crime branch Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) on Sunday late night picked up four persons identified as Vishal Sharma alias Lalya (29), Babu Kadar alias Babloo (25), John David alias Joseph (35) and Manoj Shankar alias Manya (30). Police have recovered two pistols and one revolver along with 10 live cartridges and a chopper from them. All the accused had assembled at Laxmi vilas beer bar at Dindoshi in Malad.

Preliminary inquiries it has been revealed that the four accused were coordinating with their mentor Uday Pathak, a criminal lodged in Arthur road jail. "The four accused were in constant touch with Pathak and taking instructions. All the accused have criminal background and now we are trying to find out who had engaged them and for what," said an officer.
