MUMBAI: Suhash Roge, a key convict in the murder of matka king Suresh Bhagat who jumped parole last week, on Sunday surrendered before the Kolhapur jail. Sources in the crime branch confirmed that Roge surrender before the jail.

Sources said that Roge was supposed to surrender on March 28 however he failed to turn up and immediately the Kolhapur jail authorities intimated the Mumbai police. Roge who is a close associate of gangster Arun Gawli had got parole from Kolhapur jail in December last year on the grounds that his wife Naina was suffering from Cancer.

Roge is the former member of Gawli gang who played a key role in mass killing of Bhagat and his associates in an orchestrated accident at Alibaug in 2008 and was convicted to life imprisonment along with six others last year. The entire game plan to kill Bhagat was of Jaya, her boyfriend Roge and Jaya's late son Hitesh Bhagat alias Chintoo.

Bhagat and six others, including his two bodyguards, were killed when a truck rammed into their jeep on Alibaug-Pen Road in June. The truck driver, Praveen Shetty, said he got a contract of Rs 3 lakh from Harish Mandvekar to kill Bhagat. Mandvekar told the police that he was paid Rs 25 lakh by Roge who, in turn, revealed the names of Jaya and Hitesh.
