Customer attacked in Khar bar brawl, two staffers held

MUMBAI: The waiter and manager of a Khar-based bar were arrested on Saturday, a day after a customer complained of being attacked by them. The victim, Shabbir Shaikh, had demanded to see CCTV footage of the establishment after his cellphone went missing from the table where he was seated. The incident sparked off an argument which ended with violence

Shaikh, a resident of Malad, had gone to Krishna bar in Khar East with a friend. Around 9 pm, Shaikh could not locate his cellphone which he remembered placing on the table before having his food. He called for the waiter, Ranjeet Singh, and asked him to switch on the table light. When his phone could not be traced, Shaikh suspected the waiter of stealing it. He then asked the manager, Sushil Singh, show him the CCTV footage of the establishment which would provide evidence on the phone's disappearance.

An argument ensued following which Shaikh was allegedly thrashed by Sushil, Ranjeet and other bar staffers. Shaikh has alleged that he was taken to the kitchen, where there are no CCTVs, and attacked with two beer bottles on his head. He was bleeding and was taken to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra by his friend.

The Nirmal Nagar police arrested Ranjeet and Sushil. At least two other bar staffers are likely to be arrested once their identities are ascertained. The cops will also go through CCTV footage of the establishment.

A case of assault was registered under sections 324 and 34 of the IPC against the attackers.
