MUMBAI: BEST workers have decided to experiment with the new scheduling (rota) system at Malad bus depot till Wednesday and if there are any complaints or difficulties, they will file an affidavit before the high court.
"The court has agreed to look into our grievances and asked us to follow the new system on an experimental basis. We have agreed to ply buses as per the new rota. If drivers have any complaints regarding working hours, poor facilities (rest room and canteen) and operating multiple routes, we will bring these issues before the court on Wednesday," said Uday Ambonkar of the BEST workers' union
On Saturday morning, he told TOI that buses were running smoothly at all depots, especially the Malad depot, as the union had put up notices on Friday evening_ urging workers not to bunk duties. "We are the biggest recognized union in the BEST. Since we requested the workers and informed them that the matter was subjudice, they turned up in full attendance in the morning. All the buses will ply as per the schedule,'' he stated.
The workers had gone on flash strike recently — on April 1 and 2 — and this had inconvenienced more than 40 lakh commuters in the city.
