Out for a walk, woman mugged, hubby beaten up

MUMBAI: A 27-year-old woman was mugged in Charkop when she was walking home with her husband and brother late on Sunday and lost a gold mangalsutra and a cellphone collectively worth Rs 26,500.

Victim Anita Gautam's husband was beaten with a stick by the culprit, said the police. The incident took place around 8.30 pm. The mugger fled before Anita's brother could nab him.

"Anita was walking down with her brother and husband towards her home when the unidentified accused accosted them," a police officer said. "He slapped Anita and hit her husband with a wooden stick. The accused snatched a 10 gram gold mangalsutra and a cellphone, collectively worth Rs 26,500, from Anita."

Anita later registered a complaint of robbery with the Charkop police. The Charkop police have launched a manhunt for the man.
