Mumbai : Even as the Bombay HC restrained the civic engineers' union from calling for a protest that will affect their work, the unions are adamant having called for a protest citing that the civic administration hasn't fulfilled their demands.

Sainath Rajadhyaksha, general secretary, BMC engineers' union said the strike was still on as they did not have a copy of the court order. The union had called for a protest last week and had met municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte demanding that engineers who suspended after the Dockyard Road municipal building collapse, be reinstated. They also demanded the BMC ensure that the 10 arrested civic officials get bail. The union asked the BMC administration to act by December 16, after which they had called for a 72-hour protest.

The BMC initiated anprobe against 18 officials of the planning and design and the markets departments, two days after the collapse, which claimed the lives of 61 people, The 18 officials included, the eight suspended and the 10 arrested officials. "Our demands haven't been met even after we were promised so by the commissioner. We have been left with no choice but to protest. The morale of the engineers is low and the BMC has done nothing to resurrect it."
