A source said that police teams have been combing the Malshej Ghat area in Thokhavde for the past two weeks since Rajput told the Mumbai crime branch that he had strangulated Divya and dumped her body in a valley there.
"We had taken Rajput's custody, but he failed to give us the exact location where he had dumped her body and hence the search has been long. Some skeletal remains have been found, probably they could be Divya's. We are sending them for DNA tests and a post-mortem, which will clear the picture," said a Thane police officer.
Divya's parents, who had lodged a missing person's complaint, were shown the remains, but they could not identify them. The Thane police had registered a murder case after Rajput, who was arrested for possessing illegal weapon, revealed that he had killed his wife.
