MUMBAI: AshokDevadiga alias Anil, a notorious member of fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari who was arrested in February this year in Dubai on India's red corner notice will be deported to Mumbai next week. Sources said that the UAE authorities have cleared Devadiga's deportation which he had challenged in the Dubai court.

The Dubai authorities have considered our plea to send our criminal to India by next week. We hope he should be here by Monday or Tuesday.'' said Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner of police (crime). Devadiga is a key member of Pujari gang who used to threatened businessmen, hoteliers and particularly the film personalities has been detained along with his two associates in Dubai last night.

Sources said that Devadiga who is around 40 years of age was detained in February as he was about to fly to Malaysia from Dubai. A top police officer of the Mumbai police confirmed that the UAE have send a message to India through the CBI that Devadiga against whom India has issued a red corner notice (RCN) has been detained at the Dubai airport.

We are in coordination with the UAE officials and we are likely to send a team in next 24 hours to get Devadiga and others wanted by us.'' Said a senior official.

Interestingly in December the Mumbai crime branch through the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) had RCN to UAE and other asian countries as it was transpired that Devadiga was shuttling between this countries. We believe that Devadiga has been nabbed now as the Devadiga's RCN has now put on the various airports. Devadiga has been under impression that he will never come under radar as he has been using nick name as Anil to threaten victims in India.'' Said an IPS officer on condition of anonymity.

Mumbai police said that though they don't have much information on Devadiga as he was not known until 2011. In 2011 he started calling up under nick name of Anil on behalf of his mentor and targeted builders and film personalities. Police said that there are two cases registered against him in western suburbs and police are likely to book him under the MCOCA as he was possibly involved in the killing of two employees of builder Sudhakar Shetty in March 2011 at Amboli in Andheri. Two gunmen, claiming to be members of the Ravi Pujari gang, opened fire and killed site engineer Samrat Devarsia (28) and site supervisor Yogesh Khule (29).

The police believes the arrest of Devadiga would help them understand the location of his mentor Ravi Pujari who has given security agencies sleepless nights. Pujari himself is wanted in more than two dozen cases. Sources said that if all goes well Devadiga should be in Mumbai within a week as UAE has deported and extradited several criminals holed up there.

In one decade more than three dozen criminals have been deported particularly from UAE. Riyaz Siddiqui, Rakumar Chikna, Lambu Shakeel, Iqbal Kaskar, Gulam-e-Mustafa,Ezaz Pathan, Khhota Shakeel, Aziz Dholakia alias Chai pau, Abu Salem, Chhota Shakeel's brother in law Arif Bhaijan, Bunty Pandey, Santosh Shetty, and Anil Parab.
