MUMBAI: Throwing the rule book at the Congress led Democratic Front government, the BMC's standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale has said that the state must seek the corporation's permission before it christens any road or lane.

In a letter to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, Shewale said it was an obligatory duty of the BMC to name roads.

"Under section 327 (1) (a) of the BMC Act, 1888, the municipal commissioner with the permission of the House can name a road, lane, gully, chowk etc. This also includes bridges," Shewale has said in his letter to Chavan reiterating that the state must seek the BMC's prior consent.
