Eight SIMI men acquitted

MUMBAI: Eight youth, arrested on charges of having association with the banned outfit SIMI, were on Tuesday acquitted of all the charges by a Vikhroli court. The youth, including a civil engineer and a teacher, were arrested in September 2001.

Those acquitted included Wahid Shaikh, Irfan Shaikh, Ammar Khan, Azim Qazi, Shaikh Imran, Ibrahim Shaikh, Jabbar Shaikh, Ameerullah Khan and Jamsehd Shaikh. They all were arrested by the Vikhroli Park Site police on charges of having association with a banned outfit and faced the trial for 12 years.

"We are relieved now. Its been proved that we were innocent and framed in a false case," said one of the acquitted men.
