MUMBAI: The BEST plans to repair all defective LED display indicators (of route numbers and names) in buses attached to 25 depots across the city.
"We have begun the pilot project of repairing 91 buses at Goregaon and Oshivara depots and are keeping these buses under observation during the monsoon,'' said a senior official. "Usually, the LED indicators develop faults during monsoon, when water seeps into the electrical units. After we achieve success at these two depots, we will begin the repairs of all the other defective indicators at 23 other depots,'' he stated.
Commuters have been complaining about the front and back display of LED indicators being defective. The BEST staffers have been using chalk to write the route numbers and name, and this is not visible during the night or from a distance, commuters said.
Said regular commuter Smita Tatke, "We are living in a modern age and the BEST still uses chalk and board to display the routes. This is uncalled for. They should repair all the defective LED indicators on a priority. It is very difficult for elderly persons to read the bus numbers/routes written by chalk."
