The forest officer posted in Pune was a junior investigating officer in 2008 to investigate a FIR registered against the former NCP minister. Atram was a minister of state in charge of transport and mining, women and child welfare and backward classes welfare. In June 2008, forest range officer in Pune had registered a case under the Wile Life Protection Act against Attram for alleged illegal hunting of protected species of Chinkara, Barking Deer and Indian Hare. Landge was the assistant to the investigating officer H G Dhumal then the sub-divisional forest officer in Bhor District.
The minister had resigned in August 2008 in the wake of the poaching charges, but continued as an MLA for a while. He however registered an FIR under the Atrocities Act against Dhumal and Landge in 2008.
Dhumal got relief from the court which quashed the case against him by observing that the FIR appeared to be a counter-blast, but since there was no order in Landge's favour, he was summoned by a trial court.
He thus moved the HC now for quashing the FIR against him. He said he himself belongs to the backward caste and hence he could not have committed the act alleged, besides he was doing his job as a forest officer honestly and was merely an assistant officer then.
His counsel Karan Bhosale argued said since the FIR has been quashed against his superior officer Dhumal who was the investigating officer, on grounds of parity, the charges against Landge too must go.
