BARC scientist commits suicide

MUMBAI: A 29-year old scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was found dead hanging to a water pipe on the terrace of a private building in Chembur on early Thursday morning. Police suspects that he committed suicide.

Deceased who has been identified as Amit Kumar Gyanprakash is a native of Begulsarai in Bihar and was working with the BARC for last three years as scientist D grade post at BARC office in Trombay. According to the police, Amit used to reside on the second floor of Amey apartment VT Patil road in Chembur. Amit used to stay in the one bedroom hall kitchen flat sharing the room with his two colleagues. On early Thursday morning, Bhatiya, a neighbour went for a walk on the fourth floor terrace of building to find, Amit hanging to a water pipe. He immediately informed the Govandi police.

The Govandi police reached the scene of crime to find Amit hanging with a piece of rope and there was no note or any letter found from him or his room. ``We immediately moved him to the Shatabdi hospital which declared him dead after which we shifted him to Rajawadi hospital for post mortem. It appears to be a case of suicide.'' Said Mohan Thakur, senior inspector of Govandi police station.

Police are questioning his colleagues and friends to find out if he was undergoing some stress or any other problem which may have led to commit suicide. ``We also spoke to his parents in Bihar and it is assumed that he was under stress as his sister as well he was not getting married.'' Said sub-inspector G Tarde.
