MUMBAI: To deal with illegal hawkers and also to make its own officers accountable, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to use software, on the lines of the pothole tracking system.
Under the new software, the citizens can download the application on their android mobile phones and then click a picture of a hawker, which they wish to complain about and then upload it in the system.
The software is being designed by Probity Soft, same agency that developed the pothole tracking software.
The software will run only on Android phones.
Once the picture is uploaded, the geo positioning co-ordinates of hawker will also be available with the picture and the picture will be sent to the senior inspectors of the encroachment removal and maintenance department at the ward offices.
The complaint is send to the ward officials, one can view its status on the website.
The BMC is working on making the action to be taken a time bound program and if the ward officials don't attend to a complaint in the stipulated time then the complaint will reflect in the system on assistant municipal commissioner, encroachment removals and then the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, encroachment removal.
Once the complaint is attended to, the complaint will get a message on his phone about the same.
Meanwhile, the removal vans will also be installed with sensors so that its locations can be checked.
And the fines levied on the hawkers will also have to be filled online so that the receipts can be generated.
"This feature will help tackle corruption amongst the encroachment removal staff," said a senior civic official.
Rahul Shewale, standing committee chairman said that BMC will be launching this software in the next 20 days. The citizens will benefit from this system as they will be able to view the action taken on their complaint.
