MUMBAI: Colaba police on Sunday arrested a former employee of Moshe restaurant for breaking into its south Mumbai office and robbing Rs 70,000 by using a drilling machine.
Radhekumar Yadav was caught after another employee, during scrutiny of the cctv footage, raised suspicion of possible involvement of Yadav, a former sweeper at the office. We started going through the files of ex employees and thought we should question Yadav,'' said Shivaji Kolekar assistant commissioner of police (Colaba division). On early Sunday morning the Colaba police team raided Yadav's hutment at Ambedkar Nagar at Cuffe Parade and detained him.
During interrogations he fumbled and could not explain where he was on Friday night and also his cell phone ID location proved otherwise. Two hours of thorough interrogations Yadav admitted to have committed the crime by using a drill machine. Yadav told police that he burgled the office hoping to get a huge cash of more than 10 lakhs and above as when he used to work, he had seen huge cash flowing in the safe. He told police that after sneaking into the office, he used a drill machine to break the lock of the safe but he was disappointed with a lesser amount.'' Said deputy commissioner of police (zone 1) Ravindra Shisve. Now police are probing to find out if it was Yadav who was behind the series of burglaries in this office.
Moshe Shek's office in Colaba, his joints in Cuffe Parade and Palladium Mall at Lower Parel, saw five burglaries in one year till June last year, and neither have been solved. The spate of burglaries reduced drastically after Shek installed a CCTV system. Shek, who trained in Switzerland and worked at the Taj, the Langham Hilton Hotel in London and in Tel Aviv's Hilton, started a catering unit called 'Caterbility' in 1992. He opened his first Moshe's outlet in Cuffe Parade in 2004, and has around 400 joints all over in the city.
