MUMBAI: Fed up of how the roads were in a sorry state in Kolhapurinspite of huge toll collection, the Kolhapur unit of the Shiv Sena allegedly burnt three toll nakas in the city.
Police officials said that the incident happened late on Monday night when Sainiks set fire to three toll nakas-Bavda, Shahu and Phulewadi toll nakas. The toll nakas were within the Kolhapur city and residents had to pay a toll for entering and exiting the city, however inspite of paying a toll the agency whose job was to take care of the roads was not paying any attention to its upkeep. The residents had in the past resorted to numerous agitations however all they got was assurances.
A letter to chief minister PrithvirajChavan was written four days back however seeing no response the Sena decided to take the law in to their own hands. While the residents are happy that they wont be paying the toll for now, questions are also being raised as to whether the Sena's protest had to with the approaching elections.
