MUMBAI: In an endeavour to ensure that there is no burden on the existing infrastructure, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) is planning to conduct a feasibility study of all multi-level parking proposals.
The civic administration has so far approved 38 multi-level parking proposals since it restricted their height to a maximum of ground plus four storeys last year. Of the 32 parking lots approved, 20 are for more than 700 vehicles.
The BMC will conduct a simulation study with the help of a group including examining, analysing and assessing the multi-level parking proposals for more than 500 vehicles each. "will ensure that the waiting time for a vehicle to get parking space should not be more than 10-15 minutes, to prevent traffic snarls. This will especially help in case of huge multi-level parking lots, especially in malls," said Gupta.
Gupta said that when parking lots are built in congested areas, they could pose a hazard for the nearby areas in terms of vehicular congestion, pollution and environment.
