The weather has been topsy-turvy in the city, and while in the last week of February the maximum temperature touched the 38 degree Celsius mark, suddenly there were rains on February 28, March 1 and 2 in parts of the city.
The minimum temperature recorded in Colaba on Tuesday was 15 degrees Celsius, which was 4.8 degrees below normal and in Santa Cruz it was 19.6 degrees, which was 2 degrees below normal.
The maximum continued to remain below the 30-degree mark last week. On March 2, the maximum had dropped to 26.5 degrees.
Weathermen said that while the rain spell the city witnessed over the last weekend has ended, the chill would remain. "Temperatures dropped on Tuesday but a gradual rise is expected as this is a transition period from one season to another. The city is presently witnessing westerly winds," a weatherman. said on Tuesday
The maximum temperatures recorded in the city on Tuesday were 27.9 degrees in Colaba and 28 degrees in Santa Cruz.
Mumbaikars witnessed over 10mm rain at Colaba and Santa Cruz since March 1 this year.
The humidity level recorded in Colaba was 69%, while in Santa Cruz it was 75%.
Many Mumbaikars said that they had felt extremely cold early on Tuesday.
"It's difficult to understand the weather trend with it swinging up and then going down. There was a nip in the air on Tuesday, but it may not last very long considering March to May are summer months. Over the last few years, maximum temperatures have soared high during summer," said Bandra resident Sunita D'Souza.
