Virar jewellery showroom looted of over Rs 2.5 crore valuables

MUMBAI: Unidentified men rented a shop only to loot an adjoining jewellery showroom in Virar of valuables worth over Rs 2.50 crores on Wednesday.

According to the Virar police, the men, whose identity has not been revealed, had recently taken the shop number 11 in Gokul Kshitij building, Gokul Township in Virar (west) on rent. They had kept a watch on the adjoining Omkar Jewellers, located in shop number 12. On Wednesday morning, when the jeweller opened his showroom he found the valuables missing. The showroom was ransacked and there was a hole drilled from shop number 11 to gain entry into shop number 12.

Police is questioning the owner of shop who rented out his premises. Police said that they have vital clues on the thieves who had knew where ornaments of high value was kept in the showroom. The theft is believed to have taken place in the wee hours of Wednesday.The police has not ruled out the involvement of someone from the jewellery showroom.
