MUMBAI: Realtors apex body NAREDCO (National Real Estate Development Council) and its knowledge partner KPMG will host a day-long conclave on March 4 in Mumbai focusing on issues of mass and affordable housing in Maharashtra.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the conclave - 'Vision Maharashtra - Housing for All by 2022' , which will also be addressed by ministers of Housing, Revenues, Finance, Industries, Environment & Forest and Public Works Department.

The conclave will address various issues in order to overcome the housing deficit in the State and strategies and action plan to augment supply of housing stock especially targeting the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) segments where the shortage is as high as 96%. Creating a sustainable frame work and mechanism to take care of mis-match between demand and supply in future will also come under sharp focus at the conclave. Chintan Patel - Partner, Real Estate & Hospitality at KPMG stated, "Maharashtra is leading the nation's urban growth. However, the state is today facing critical challenges with respect to housing especially "affordable" housing. As per our preliminary estimate, the state would require a minimum of about 50 lakh new housing units by 2022 to meet urbanisation. To achieve the vision of "Housing for All", the Government needs to accelerate implementation of policy reforms such as ease of approval process, enhance transport and utility infrastructure, increase FSI, and develop satellite cities to augment development and rejuvenation of the existing cities (smart city), especially Mumbai."

NAREDCO is under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

About 600 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate in the conclave and they include representatives of the Central and State governments, State Development authorities and Housing Boards, besides real estate promoters, developers, banking and housing finance institutions, foreign direct investors, private equity players and town planners. NAREDCO vice president Rajan Bandelkar said the topics for discussion include smart cities, affordable housing, industry hurdles and way forward, Maharashtra Housing Regulatory Act, speedy approvals, revenue, environment, and issues related to BMC, CIDCO and MMRDA.
