MUMBAI: Dances in bars will continue to be banned in the state as even bigger hotels, which were spared from such ban earlier, will now have to follow the orders.

Parliamentary affairs minister Harshawardhan Patil while talking to electronic media outside the state legislature premises said state cabinet had cleared an amendment that will effect total ban, including the five stars.

Now the amended draft would be tabled at the ongoing assembly session for approval of both the houses of the state legislature, he said.

In a bid to end discrimination among hotels in running dance bars as pointed out by the Supreme Court, state government has now decided to totally ban dances including in five star hotels which were allowed earlier.

Though there is no clear idea as to whether special dance events would be allowed in hotels or not, sources said such events might be allowed only after special permission from the authorities. "bars and dances will not coexist until special permission only for occasions such as new year parties etc," sources said.

The final draft of the bill would be made public upon its placement before the legislature.
