Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case: Court summons Amit Shah

MUMBAI: A special CBI court on Friday issued summons to 36 accused, including Amit Shah — close aide of BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, in the 2006 Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case. The court also rejected the bail plea of suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh shootout case.

Prajapati was an accomplice of Sheikh, who was killed in a 2005 encounter. Tulsiram was killed in a similar operation in 2006. Two accused in the Tulsiram case, retired IPS officer O P Mathur and Dy SP R K Patel, surrendered before the same court on Friday.

They were granted bail. The summoned accused, including Shah, are expected to appear before the court on May 23. Vanzara, an accused in the Sohrabuddin and Prajapati cases, has been in jail for seven years. He had moved court in the Sohrabuddin case on grounds of parity after several other accused were granted bail. The CBI opposed the plea.

The cases were transferred to Mumbai following a SC order. CBI had arrested Shah in the Sohrabuddin case on July 25, 2010. He was imprisoned for over three months in Sabarmati jail before being granted bail later.
