Govt orders probe into club lift failure

MUMBAI: The state government has asked for a detailed inquiry of Saturday's lift failure that occurred on the top floors of the Palladium tower in Lower Parel, leading to chaos among those who were partying at the clubs there.

A senior PWD engineer said the matter never came to the department as a complaint as there was no one inside the lift when it stopped working. "However, after reading about it in newspapers, we have asked our engineers to see if there was any technical snag in the lift or in its power supply system and submit the report to the government," he added.

"What we could understand prima facie is that overcrowding on the floors created chaos but later the service lift was opened for the guests. Shockingly, the fire and emergency alarm systems were locked on the floors," said the official who is part of the PWD department that issues licences and NoCs for electrical fittings and elevator installations.
