MUMBAI: 16 cartridges of .32 bore revolver were recovered during a road digging and repairing work next to Hotel Taj opposite the Gateway of India on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Ravindra Shisve, deputy police commissioner, said that some repair work was on in a parking lot near Hotel Taj at around 1.30 pm when the laborers found some broken lever blocks. "When they removed the lever paver blocks they found cartridges. They informed the police immediately," he said.

The cartridges, said police, are too old. "Perhaps they are unused cartridges. Such bullets are used in licenced Indian weapons. We will be sending them to the kalina forensic science laboratory for ballistic analysis to find out how old the cartridges are and whether they were used ever," said a police officer.

It is worth noting that four Pakistani terrorists who barged into the Hotel Taj on 26/11 in 2008 had started random firing to kill people. However their weapons were made in a Pakistani ordnance factory.
