Mumbai: 200 workers escape unhurt in Andheri building blaze

MUMBAI: Around 200 workers escaped unhurt in a major fire broke in a hospital building under construction on JVPD Road, Andheri (west) at 3.15pm on Tuesday. The fifth floor of the 10-storey Khubchandani hospital building caught fire. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Eight fire tenders were sent on the spot and the fire was brought under control within an hour. the workers told the Andheri police that the fire broke on the fifth floor and they came running down after learning about the fire.

"The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The fire caught on an air condition ducting insulation, rubber insulation, plastic pipes, temporary electric wiring and glass wool. More than 200 workers came down in the nick of time and nobody was trapped. There was wall partition work going on many floors in the building. All major construction pertaining to civil portions were completed,"said P Nesarikar, deputy, chief fire officer.
