Pre-arrest bail for Sena MLA in sexual harassment case

MUMBAI: A sessions court judge on Thursday granted pre-arrest bail for Rs 15,000 to Shiv Sena MLA Vinod Ghosalkar in a sexual harassment case filed against him last month. A woman corporator had accused him of criminal intimidation and harassment. Ghosalkar had filed for anticipatory bail.

The police did not oppose his plea and said it was ready to file its chargesheet within a day in the case. His custody for interrogation, thus not required, the court granted him anticipatory bail.

Ghosalkar a MLA from Dahisar, a Mumbai north constituency, was accused by a woman member from his own party who said he threatened her after she complained about a builder who was destroying a mangrove. She received calls, she alleged after her phone number was scribbled on a public toilet wall.

Nileema Kasture, a public prosecutor confirmed the order of interim protection to Ghosalkar. Police are restrained till March 11.

Ghosalkar's case was that the sections invokved against him were bailable and that he was cooperating with the police. On February 5, Dahisar police lodged a case of criminal intimidation (Section 506 IPC), printing of defamatory matter and molestation (Section 509).
