NAVI MUMBAI: One man was arrested by APMC police for attempting to fire at an 'angadia' inside the masala market of APMC wholesale mart in Vashi today afternoon.

Police said that two accused men had entered inside the office of a Gujarati angadia pretending to be a trader and his associate. However, the moment they saw the angadia, one man took out a chopper and later a handgun in order to threaten the angadia to give him all the cash in the office.

"One of the men tried to fire the gun at me, but I grappled with him in order to stop him from doing so. In the commotion, one of the two men fled from the spot," said Yogesh Patil, an angadia by profession.

The business community of 'angadias' normally deliver money from one place to another for various traders and businessmen. It is like a courier system that works on the "word of mouth" as the business community has a lot of faith on the angadias to safely deliver the cash amounts.

Further investigation is on by the APMC police to catch the other accused person who fled from the scene of crime.
