An SMS alert from the North Kanara Gaud Saraswat Bank ( NKGSB) regarding the withdrawal of cash from her account alerted Madhavi Parekh last week.
The salesman, believed to be in his late 20s approached Parekh at her Vimal Deep building, Golden Nest, Bhayander (east). He offered her an internet plan of Rs 74. He asked for two cheques, one of Rs 54 and another for Rs 20. Parekh signed the cheques. The salesman asked for water and Parekh went to the kitchen. The salesman pulled out a leaf from the cheque book which was left on the table where he was seated.
An hour later Parekh got a sms alert from her bank regarding the withdrawal of Rs 54,000. She reached the bank and was shocked to find her signature on a cheque of Rs 54,000. She registered a complaint with the Navghar police.
Parekh alleged that the cash withdrawal could have taken place in connivance with a bank employee as the cheque was honoured even though her signature had been cancelled twice. Also there was no mention of the pan number on the reverse of the cheque as is mandatory for withdrawals above Rs 50,000.
While the police could not get any images of the suspect from the bank, they are relying on the clippings found on the closed circuit television ( CCTV) of Parekh's building.
