Said MSEDCL spokesperson Ram Dotonde, "As compared to other states, our rates are low and competitive. We have signed a few power purchase agreements for a long-term period (up to 25 years) and these rates are cheaper than those signed by other state distribution companies."
He further said that the PPA with JSW was for purchase of 371 MW power. "The agreement had been signed for 25 years and the rate of purchase is just Rs 2.72 per unit. In comparison, the neighbouring state of Gujarat which purchases power at the rate of Rs 2.89 per unit," he said.
Dotonde said that UP had a power purchase agreement with three companies for 1,200 MW, 1,062 MW and 300 MW — it pays in the range of Rs 5.97 to Rs 7.10 per unit. Rajasthan procures 1,200 MW power at Rs 3.25 and it has also signed agreements for purchase of power for as high as Rs 6.10, he added.
Meanwhile, the MERC on Friday will hear a petition by Reliance Infra which has sought extension of time to implement its order asking the power firms to ensure cheaper electricity for 9 lakh consumers in 11 clusters in the suburbs. While these will be direct customers of Tata Power, Rinfra will provide supply related services.
