Vasai Virar bus services completes a year, more routes introduced

MUMBAI: On completion of a year of operation, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has introduced three more bus routes.

The VVMC buses which were introduced in October 3, 2012 has received good response from passengers.

The civic administration has introduced new routes — Nalasopara (east) to Tungareshwar, Vasai (east) to Gavraipada, Nalasopara Patha to Nalasopara (west) and back — from Thursday.

The buses are run by a private operator Bhagirathi Travels. A total of 100 buses run on 24 routes in the region, of which eight routes have maximum takers. They include Vasai (east) to Sativali, Vasai (east) to Vasai Patha, Vasai (west) to Killabunder, Nalasopara to Sopara Patha, Virar (east) to Kumbar Park, Sopara (east) to Virar (east), Vasai tehsil office to Virar (east).

The VVMC will get another 10 buses in the current year. The civic administration rewarded 25 bus staff on completion of a year. The staff also got a salary hike of Rs 500 per month.
