MUMBAI: A sweeper was arrested by the Kandivali police for robbing a trader, threatening him and vandalizing his shop on Wednesday. Vijay Sarasar alias Dattu, the accused, is a resident of Laljipada in Kandivali West.

Around 1 pm, Sarasar, 25, barged into a shop owned by Mangalprasad Gupta in Laljipada area. Sarasar was carrying a three-feet-long iron pipe. He threatened Gupta and his associate, Narendra Prajapati, with the pipe and robbed them of Rs 11000 in cash collectively. He smashed several glass jars on the counter of Gupta's shop with the pipe.

He also warned Gupta that he would fetch a knife and teach him a lesson. Gupta later registered an FIR with the Kandivali police. Sarasar was taken into custody at 8.15 pm and the iron pipe was seized from him.
