The two alleged assailants were identified as Sanjay bansonde and Suhas Bandivdekar and were arrested last Friday.
They were allegedly part of a group of men who threatened and assaulted a group of activists who were surveying a 425 acres of mangroves which were under threat.
In 2010, a group of activists had gone to survey the extent of damage to mangroves on a plot of land in Dahisar. They were accompanied by the tehsildar of the area as well.
While they were at the spot, a group of 100 plus people threatened and assaulted them, snatched their cameras and asked them to leave the place. He duo arrested recently was allegedly part of the group of goons involved in the assault.
The activists were assessing the land where a 20 meter wide road has been constructed by a renowned builder on the pretext of repairing the bunds in the area.
"The builder was trying to choke the mangroves by constructing the road. The case was presented to the local authorities and we were on an official visit to the site along with the tehsildar when we were threatened and our cameras were snatched," said Stalin D from Vanashakti, who was among the group of activists who visited the site.
Inspector Sanjeev Bhole, who is familiar with the case said that an identification parade of the two arrested would be conducted in a week's time where the witnesses would be called and asked to identify the two accused.
