Law committee chairman wants BMC to take over MCA plot

MUMBAI: The civic law committee chairman Makarand Narvekar has demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should take over the cricket academy and club constructed by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on the Kandivali plot and run it on its own.

In a letter to the civic administration, he has said that for the benefit of poor and needy people, the municipal commissioner should take over the MCA's academy so that a sporting facility will be made available to their kids.

In 2004, the BMC had allotted a plot at Mahavir Nagar, Kandivali, admeasuring 42,290.6 sq metres earmarked as a playground to the MCA for setting up a cricket academy. The plot is mired in controversy, as there are allegations of MCA flouting civic norms by setting up a recreational club instead of a cricket academy.

Narvekar has also demanded a legal action against MCA for causing financial loss to the BMC.
