Saying that this move will lead to noise pollution, increase parking woes in the nights and will also lead to various other civic problems, citizens say that it is not practical to have such a concept all across the city.
Citizens groups say that non-residential zones and a few tourists spots in the city like Gateway of India can have 24x7 eateries but residential areas shouldn't be included in this plan.
Currently the plan that has been chalked out by Thackeray says that the proposal would be applicable to both residential as well as non-residential areas. In non-residential areas like BKC, Colaba, the eateries can be kept open throughout night. But in residential areas, they can be allowed only after taking consent from 70 per cent of local residents and police. The responsibility of garbage collection, keeping the noise down and traffic discipline will rest with the owner of the establishment.
"The responsibility of keeping the areas clean, managing the customers and ensuring that his business poses no problem to the nearby residents will be with the owner," said Thackeray.
