The police said that five of the victims were admitted to Masina hospital with severe burn injuries. The incident took place at around 10 pm in room 102 of building number five in in Chikowadi area of Mankhurd. Police said that the fire took place due to gas leakage. The gas spread in other rooms spreading the fire. "All the residents were evacuated within a few minutes by the fire brigade personnel. "Six persons and two children were rushed to Sion Hospital with burn injuries," said Shankar Singh Rajput, senior police inspector. By Saturday afternoon, three persons were discharged while five others were shifted to Byculla's Masina Hospital. Doctors said a child Dhanesh Shetiyar, (10), was kept on ventilator.
Other four injured were Mamta Shirodkar (35), Suryakant Kamble (27), Shalan Gaikwad(31) and Shradhha Bhoire(30). Police said that Shirodkar sustained 90 percent burn injuries and his body charred, Gaikwad was admitted with 83 percent burns. Two other patients, Kamble and Bhoire sustained 63 and 70 percent burns respectively. In her given statement to the police, Shradha Bhoire stated that before the fire gutted her home, she smelled gas and rushed out of her house to inform others. "We are investigating the entire incident and had not registered any case", added Rajput.
