MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday asked the CBI to verify a large inventory of over 4 lakh bail bonds alleged to have been sent by the government printing press to the railway protection force in Mumbai. The court was hearing a PIL alleging fake railway court scam at Kurla suburban railway station.
The bench of Justice P V Hardas and P N Deshmukh askedCBI to inform by Monday whether it had verified the bail bonds. The PIL filed by activist Samir Zaveri said although the alleged scam was detected in Kurla, it is necessary to know how far it may have extended.
Additional Solicitor General Kevic Setalvad urged that the probe had been handed over to CBI which was investigating.Nothing survived in the PIL and the matter should be disposedof, he argued.
The PIL was filed after Zaveri received information that fake bail bonds had illegally enriched the pockets of a few and harassed thousands of people.
